Tilting at Windmills

Premier Dalton McGuinty is all gung ho with the idea of filling the Ontario landscape with massive wind turbines.

It's a green idea which has lots of landowners seeing red.

Understandably, many property owners don't much like the idea of seeing their land blighted with turbines, a technology which some believe may pose a health risk.

But McGuinty doesn't care, he plans to put up his windmills whether locals like it or not.

Of course, his scheme has less to do with producing clean energy and more to do with appeasing strident environmental groups.

For instance, I don't see the Premier putting a wind turbine in his backyard.

This is just another example of why we need to protect private property rights in this country.

In the meantime a grassroots group called Wind Concerns Ontario has formed to stop McGuinty's land grab.

They deserve support.

Just ask how many birds these windmills kill a year.

I suspected as much. He should pay attention to the Huron-Kinloss experience with extensive development.Enough residents have complained of health problems to prompt council to consider a by law agaist further development. I understand that a new bill in the legislature would override such by laws. Is this correct?

McGuinty was very "testy" on TV the other day. His problem is that he has hitched his wagon to the "green" movement and it is a total failure.

He had the gall to state that wind-turbines reduce CO2 ... but obviously he is incapable of learning from the failed European experience.

Wind-turbines require a lot of maintenance for the power they produce.

Ethanol which was never economical has been a disaster in the US.

Sweden has essentially given up on alternative energy (ie. wind power)

Please read Barbara Ashbee's story at the Wind Concerns Ontario site -an Open Letter to McGuinty. http://windconcernsontario.org

What McGuinty is doing is shameful. I guess the greenies have found out that the only way to force their agenda is through fascism.

I support more recently anything that's good for capitalism, for my wallet, the environment!

Did I mention capitalism and my wallet?

Bring on the windmills.

I've seen them north of Goderich.

Get with it boys and girls, times are a changin'!

We don't have buggy whips anymore and with this world economic mess we darn near don't have cars either!

Have a great weekend!
