Olympic Boycott Alternative

Some people are calling for a boycott of the Beijing Olympic games to protest China's brutal treatment of Tibet.

But I have a better idea.

Rather than going through all the trouble and hassle of a boycott, we should just set aside a single hour --- we could call it"Tibet Hour" or maybe "Dalai Lama Hour", during which time we would sit down and think nice thoughts about Tibet.

Would that help the Tibetans?

No, but it might make us feel better and isn't that what meaningless, symbolic gestures are really all about?

Very funny Gerry, and very true.

Let's all boycott Coca-Cola who are sponsoring the Olympic torch rally with the 'KGB' type thugs protecting the runner.

Yup. This is the foundation of all Prevention and Promotion affirmative actions.

Your idea fits the model just fine, lol!

Yeah -- However, the Olympics no longer represent many ideals...

It seems to have become about who can evade drug testing most effectively and big corporate sponsors...

I would think that the opportunity to embarass a Communist regime would fit with freedom loving Libertarians...

No?
