Green New World

Ever wonder what kind of society the eco-loony left brigade has in store for us?

Well here are some of their "planet saving" schemes currently on the drawing board:

* A special carbon tax on babies.
Yes it turns out those cuddly little bundles of joy are really just carbon gas emitting ecological disasters. As one Australian health care expert put it, "Every newborn baby in Australia represents a potent source of greenhouse gas emissions for an average of 80 years, not simply by breathing but by the profligate consumption of resources typical of our society".

* Til Death do you Part
According to a "scientific study" divorce pollutes the environment, because it splits households in two, doubling the demand for electricity and even water. So in the future we can expect couples who wish to divorce will have to file a environmental impact study.

* Banning Beer fridges
A University of Alberta study says beer fridges contribute significantly to global warming. "People need to understand the impact of their lifestyles," says British environmental consultant Joanna Yarrow. "Clearly the environmental implications of having a frivolous luxury like a beer fridge are not hitting home." So to help drive home the message environmentalists are suggesting governments "round up" these threatening fridges.

I wonder if this is all part of Liberal leader Stephane -- My dog's name is Kyoto -- Dion's "hidden green agenda?"

I got a kick out of that beer fridge article. I've got 2 myself, 1 in the garage and 1 downstairs behind my bar both filled with Bud. I've also got a small wine fridge too. If algore can spend $500/month heating his pool and still live with himself I can have 2 beer and 1 wine fridge and I won't loose any sleep over it either.

Babies???? Huh?? Almost as bad as the loony left's suggestion to put a cork in the ass of all cows since they emit ½ pound of methane into the air. Oh, the humanity!!!

Whats looney left about wanting to protect the environment. I may not agree with the most hardcore environmentalists, but I certainly don't agree with people like yourself who think we should just ignore the environment and do whatever we want. And in fact most Canadians want us to at least make some effort on the environment. It seems only the right wing ideologues hate anything to do with the environment.

Give me a break Miles. Quite the leap from the idiocy of the examples Gerry posts to your leap of faith in what amounts to the looney left's snowball of ridiculous anticdotes on how to save the planet.

I guess we knuckle-draggers just don't like the hypocrisy or the holier than thou stance of the loons.

Miles, get off the kool-aid.

There is plenty of evidence that government policies such as Kyoto are actually not helping the way that they should be but are more akin to painting over a rust spot on a car and encouraging complacency.

If we really want to do something about global warming and the adverse effects it will have if it happens as so many climatologists have predicted, we need to recognize that since it does not represent a typical economic problem of negative externalities in the ways that other environmental problems like acid rain have, all avenues need to be considered if we're going to find an effective solution to environmental problems.

What's loony is refusing to look at whether or not what you're doing is helping or hurting out of some sort of dogmatic devotion to listening only to those who agree with you. It's also probably the most damaging thing any environmentalist does when attempting get people on board.

Janet - I don't totally disagree with what you are saying, however I get the impression Gerry is saying we should do nothing rather than do something but do it differently. We can argue helping the environment through free market policies as Manning has done. The problem is with people like Gerry who think any issue that would normally require a left wing approach, we should just ignore, rather than find other ways to solve it.

With the Looney left it is not about the environment, it is about controlling our lives, and finding new taxes to squeeze out of those who work for a living.

Although it would be ironic to see the lefties banning divorce, but eliminating babies would fit their pro-abortion stance.
